The 1920s

The period of the 1920s was a time of celebration. The biggest thing in this era was the new and hip jazz music. Everybody loved dancing to this new style of music at jazz clubs. Radios were by far the best thing of the 1920s. The 1920s also started the invention of sound movies. There was plenty of great things that happened in this time period. The popular dances of the 1920s were the Charleston, the Fox-trot, and the shimmy. People attended dance marathons for fun on the weekends. Another big thing of the 1920s was the radio. People listened to the radio everyday to hear jazz music, sports games, and live events. One of the most popular musicians was named Louie Armstrong, or the King of Jazz. The movies were also one of the biggest things. The start of the 3-D movies and sound movies began to come out in the 1920s. The 1920s was also a huge breakthrough in medicine and science. Penicillin and the discovery of insulin for diabetics was founded in the 1920s.

The 1920s had plenty of entertainment to offer. For example, people started to attend more and more movies. Also, women started to play a big role in the 1920s society. A women name Nellie Tayloe Ross of Wyoming became the first women to be elected as a governor of a state. Even though all these great things were happening in the 1920s, they would soon reach a downfall at the end of the decade. The stock market crashed on October 29, 1929, causing the Great Depression for the United States. This day was known as Black Tuesday. More than 16 million stocks that day became pretty much worthless, and that left many people homeless and penniless. The 1920s seemed to be such a great era, and who knew that it would only take two weeks to ruin an entire decade
