The Green Light

The Green Light is one of the most important symbols in the book. The green light represents Gatsby's hopes and dreams for the future. Gatsby relates this symbol with Daisy because he is in love with her and he hopes to be with her in the future. In Chapter 1, he reaches toward the green light in the darkness to reach his goal. Because the green light is representing the American Dream, it symbolizes a more general ideal.
